Location

The former Kanyawegi Childrens Home had a frontage on to the Kisumu to Busia Road (B1) in the village of Otonglo, 4 miles north-west of the centre of Kisumu City, Nyanza Province, Kenya, East Africa.

The new rented Emmanuel Home is located near the Riat Market which is also off the Busia Road (B1), approximately 2 ¾ miles north-west of the centre of Kisumu City.

Kisumu is a port city in western Kenya on Lake Victoria and is the third largest city in Kenya, behind Nairobi and Mombasa.  Kisumu is of strategic importance, as Lake Victoria also has borders with Uganda and Tanzania.

Kisumu port was founded in 1901 as ‘Port Florence’ as the main inland terminal of the Uganda Railway (nicknamed the ‘Lunatic Express’) running through Kenya linking to Mombasa port on the Indian Ocean.

Kisumu has ‘friendship’ status with Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK and has ‘sister city’ connections with Roanoke, Virginia, USA and Boulder, Colorado, USA.
