Kanyawegi UK is the registered charity (No.1106296) responsible for supporting and funding care for orphaned children and young people near Kisumu, Kenya, East Africa.
In 2014, arising from the Kenya Highway Authority’s proposals to widen the Busia Road which would entail the loss of the Kanyawegi Children’s Home’s frontage and part of the building near Otonglo Market (4 miles north-west of Kisumu City Centre), it was decided to move site to a rented house near Riat Market (2 ¾ miles north-west west of Kisumu City Centre). In discussion with Roy Samo (the Home’s Manager), it was decided that it was appropriate at the same time to change the name of the Home from ‘Kanyawegi Children’s Home’ to ‘EmmanuelHome’.
The EmmanuelHome currently provides support to around 31 orphaned children and young people in education up to and beyond secondary school level.
The Kanyawegi UK charity was first registered with the Charity Commission on the 13 October 2004 and the stated charitable aims are:
The relief of poverty and the advancement of education of orphans and children, in particular but not exclusively in Kenya, in accordance with Christian principles.
Support for the work in Kenya comes from a number of individual donors, some of whom provide regular support and sponsorship for children in the Home. In addition to regular giving from individuals / couples, we also receive periodic ‘one-off’ gifts from generous donors, including churches.
